5 Ways to Wear a Sweater Dress in Spring

By on March 30, 2015

Generally speaking, we reserve most of our knits for winter. Once the warmer months come we are only too happy to pack them away in favour of lighter, breezier garments. BUT for the last few years Mother Nature seems to be blurring the lines between the seasons. I mean, snow in March? What a drag. This weather put us in quite the pickle, fashionably speaking. To part with our winter knits, or not to part with our winter knits, that is the question. Because of course the second you pack them away the temperature drops below zero again! This is why we Canadians value transitional clothing pieces like no other country. Something that can take us from winter to early spring is a must. The sweater dress is one such piece. With a little bit of added warmth and unlimited styling capabilities, this little number can easily become spring-ready with the switch of a bootie. You can even freshen up your look with some pastel coloured accessories, which are so popular this season! Take a look at my top 5 sweater dress looks for spring!

Office Appropriate

The air-conditioned office is a real struggle for the working professional in spring. It looks so warm and sunny outside that you want to dress in sleeveless blouses (that adhere to the office dress code, of course) but then you’re constantly chilled while sitting at your desk. The answer is a happy medium. A lightweight sweater dress will keep your style in season while protecting you from the air conditioning. Brighten up your look with some spring-friendly accessories.

Casual Sunday

Out and about running errands – cute and comfortable is every girl’s go-to look. Incorporating a lightweight knit in a spring colour with pastel accessories is the perfect for in-between seasons. This look also brings the oversized trend that we have been seeing into spring. A nice camel colour boot chosen over the darker colours we tend to gravitate to in the colder months will instantly refresh your look.

Weekend Brunch
Sometimes we want to let our hair down and get a little flirty on the weekends. What better time to show off our fun side than brunch? A must for the city girl! This super-lightweight wool sweater dress is just the ticket. Pastels are huge for spring 2015, which makes it easy to pull off the uber-feminine vibe that always comes back with the warm weather. Throwing on an extra layering piece will make sure you’re not jumping headfirst into spring too quickly, before Mother Nature has made up her mind.

Drinks with Friends
It’s no secret that a fitted sweater dress is beyond flattering on a woman’s curves. The below the knee hem on this dress is perfect for desk to dinner. Throw your hair in a top knot to let your sparkly earrings do the talking. This look hits all the points from weather appropriate to cool, sleek and sophisticated.

Date worthy
A casual dinner date can be one of the most daunting occasions to dress for. You could spend hours going through your closet like Goldie Locks “this dress is too revealing”, “this dress is too formal”. But I think this sweater dress combo is “just right”! The animal print near the neckline adds some interesting visual to this not too dressy, not too casual look. Jazz it up with an attention-grabbing handbag and some slouchy booties and you’re good to go.
