Designer Watch: Nicholas Kirkwood

By on March 22, 2015

Nicholas Kirkwood and his eponymous shoe brand have been striding into our hearts this season right along with the spring weather. After months and months and months of shielding our poor toes from the winter elements, it’s finally their time to shine! The British shoe designer, known for his fabulously architectural designs, has used everything from translucent PVC to laser cut cork for the Resort 2015 collection.

Making us even more excited to shed our winter skin and strut confidently into summer (the modest heel heights of the collection help with this too!)

Falling within the $500 – $1,500 (Canadian) range, I would consider this to be an investment purchase. But Kirkwood has been picking up on the biggest shoe trends of the season, so rest assured you’ll be getting tons of wear out of them. If this is a big purchase for you, consider choosing something in a neutral colour so you can wear them everywhere! You really don’t need to re-invent the wheel to design a fabulous pair of shoes. Kirkwood understands this and successfully pushes the creative boundaries without having us wondering, “what was he thinking??”. Instead we’re left saying, “what a genius!”

petalStrappy, sexy, and trendy, yet not over the top. These heels would be the perfect complement to a little black dress for a night out on the town. Or for a Sunday brunch with the girls, dress it down with some crisp white pants.

wedgeKirkwood puts his own spin on the chunky wedge that we’ve been seeing all over the place. By using a laser cut cork design, he really takes the trend to the next level. Perfect for the white flowy dresses of summer!

ankestrapWith metallic details all the rage, these pumps are SO splurge-worthy! The translucent PVC is reminiscent of Cinderella’s glass slipper while the chevron design updates the look. If you’re worried about travelling to and fro in these heels, do not fret – the same design also comes in a flat! What a cute alternative for running around town on Saturday.
